Local and hands-on

A Hemel Hempstead builder you deal with directly

T Woodman Builders is based in Hemel Hempstead and run by Trevor Woodman. He learned the trade through an apprenticeship and college, worked on site for other builders, then set up on his own more than thirty years ago. Today he has 40 years of experience behind him.

Trevor visits, prices the work and stays in charge of the job, and his own builders carry it out. Reviews from across the HP postcodes keep coming back to the same points: tidy, polite, easy to get hold of, and finished when promised.

Great work and service from start to finish

We had Trev and the team help us create an open plan kitchen diner living space which involved knocking down several internal walls including bringing in steels. They were able to fit us in so quickly due to a cancellation, which was an unexpected win for us. They started early November and had finished by Christmas, as promised. Everyone in Trev’s team were cheerful, friendly, respectful of our house and very helpful. They even kept our access to the washing machine and dishwasher throughout and reconnected this every evening before they left. The finished work is fantastic…

Single Rear extension with Polar white render finish.

Another happy client of t woodman builders, everything was 10/10. The work is perfection, I can’t fault the workmanship or the tidiness and trev and his boys. They have turned my house into a warm modern home. Have recommended to my neighbours.

Not your average builder

Had t Woodman and guys in to do an extension and loft conversion for us recently and I can’t recommend these guys enough, the builder/boss was extremely helpful in overcoming any problems/issues we had (being an older property these guys overcome quite a lot for us) great team of guys working for trevor, nothing was ever a problem with them, brilliant from start to finish, done a real quality job, would be my go to builder in the future without a doubt

Single story front extension

Trev and his team are friendly, polite, considerate and kept everything clean throughout the whole period of the works. They also went the extra mile at various points and the whole project was done in the time frame I was given. They are all happy to help and go out of their way. Ultimately were really happy with the result and have already begun talking about future projects with Trev.

Building in Hemel Hempstead

Planning in Dacorum, in brief

Planning applications for Hemel Hempstead go to Dacorum Borough Council. Plenty of single-storey rear extensions and some loft conversions can be built without one under permitted development, but bigger schemes, homes in one of the borough’s 25 conservation areas and listed buildings need permission.

Whatever the planning route, every extension and conversion needs Building Regulations approval, and work near a shared wall usually means party wall notices. We’ll explain what applies to your house at the free visit.

Neighbourhoods and local planning

Questions Hemel homeowners ask

Are you a Hemel Hempstead company?

Yes. T Woodman Builders is based in Hemel Hempstead, and a good share of our Checkatrade reviews come from HP1, HP2 and HP3 postcodes. We also work in St Albans, Harpenden, Hatfield and across Hertfordshire.

Is your work insured?

It is. We’re fully insured and licensed for construction work, and we’ve been through Checkatrade’s vetting as members since 2021.

What does the first visit cost?

Nothing. The consultation at your home is free and there’s no obligation. Afterwards we send a written quote with each cost broken down.

Can we keep living at home during the work?

Usually, yes. We plan the noisy and disruptive stages with you. A Hemel Hempstead family whose kitchen we opened up noted that we reconnected their washing machine and dishwasher every evening so they could keep using them.

How long will our extension take?

That depends on its size and structure, so you’ll get a projected timeline with your quote. As one example, a Hemel Hempstead kitchen knock-through with new steels started in early November and was finished by Christmas, as promised.

What will it cost?

It depends on the size, the structure, the glazing and the finish, which is why every price comes after a free visit: itemised, with no hidden extras.

What are you planning?

Not sure which? Pick the closest and tell us more on the next step.
